LEXICON Meetings of the of the Committees on European Affairs of the Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland

  1. Meetings of the Committees on European Affairs of the Parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, initiated in 2005, usually are held twice a year before COSAC meetings, successively in each of the states participating in the cooperation.
  2. The purpose of the meetings is to analyse issues on the agenda of the upcoming COSAC meeting, develop positions for COSAC meetings and take joint initiatives. The Polish parliament is represented at the meetings by members of the Bureaus of the committees responsible for EU affairs of the Sejm and the Senate.
  3. Conclusions of the meetings, adopted in English, are sent to the COSAC Secretariat and are available on the COSAC website, and in Polish also on the OIDE website.
  4. The meetings held so far have been dedicated to important European issues (such as: free movement of  workers, energy security, ratification and implementation of the Treaty of Lisbon, financial crisis, Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, Brexit, reform of European Asylum System) as well as region specific subjects (the Eastern Partnership, the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, situation in Ukraine and Belarus). Apart from current political events, special attention was given during the deliberations to issues relating to the role of national parliaments in the EU, including subsidiarity check.
